DGPs are the 3-star rank IPS (Indian Police Service ) Officer. They are the Highest Rank police Officer and head of any state police & union territory police. (ADGP)
ADGPs are 3 star ranked IPS (Indian Police Service ) Officers. As ADGP has equivalent rank like DGP but in Police force, they are considered junior to DGP . The rank insignia of an ADGP is a national emblem over a crossed sword with baton .
INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (IGP)
All IGPs are IPS officers. The usual position of IG are below to the ADGP and above to the DIG . They are considered to the head of large regional command and in some country, they are refers to the senior-most officer on entire police force. The rank insignia of an IG is a star over a crossed sword with baton .
DEPUTY INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (DIGP)
DIGPs are one star ranked IPS officers . The rank of these officers are below to the IG and above to the SP . The rank insignia of a DIG are national emblem over three star .
DEPUTY COMMISSIONOR OF POLICE (DCP) or SUPERINTENDENT POLICE (SP)
DCP or SP are the head of the district police force .All SP and DCP are IPS officers .The rank insignia of SP are national emblem over two star.

SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE(DSP)

POLICE INSPECTOR (PI)

ASSISTANT POLICE INSPECTOR(API)
APIs are junior to PI present in police station of some state like Maharashtra , Delhi etc.
POLICE SUB- INSPECTOR (SI)
SI are the 1st investing officer and can file a charge sheet in court . The rank insignia of SI is two star above the blue and red ribbon at the edge of the shoulder straps .
ASSISTANT POLICE SUB INSPECTOR (ASI)
ASI are junior to SI and senior to the head constable . the rank insignia of ASI is one star above the blue and red ribbon .
HEAD CONSTABLE (HC)
Head constable are equivalent to HAVILDAR in other country .They wear three point down chevrons on their shoulder & they are senior to constable .
POLICE Constable (PC)
